Heritage Centre

The HLF funded Llanuwchllyn Heritage Centre protects and displays artefacts relevant to the slate industry of north Wales. Not only locomotives but lesser obvious items such as tools, different types of wagons, different types of rail and various different signs. This all goes towards telling the story of how important the slate industry was to the region.

At the 2020 Heritage Railways Association awards ceremony, the Heritage Centre won the "Outstanding Visitor Attraction" award, against stiff opposition from other very worthy projects.

You can find out more about the Heritage Centre exhibits, both those on display and other historic items we have on site by visiting the dedicated website:

Please note, the Heritage Centre website is still a work in progress, we are gradually documenting all the historic items we have on site, but the process is likely to take several years to complete.

Opening Times

The Heritage Centre is open on all days that trains are operating, normally from about an hour before the departure of the first train until 20-30 minutes before the arrival of the last train.

The Heritage Centre was made possible by a Heritage Lottery Fund grant.
