Mini Steam Gala - 25th, 26th and 27th August

Our main steam gala was moved to June this year.  But we couldn’t have an August Bank Holiday weekend without doing something special, so we’ve added a mini steam gala.

This has all the hallmarks of one of our main galas, but featuring just the home fleet of steam engines.

Mini Steam Gala 2018 Double Hunslet's

We will have up to five engines in steam each day, and the highlights include:

  • ‘Driver for a fiver’ – a chance for you to take the controls of Winifred and drive her up and down the loop line at Llanuwchllyn (various times each day between 11:30 and 3:30)
  • Holy War’s last steam turn before she is withdrawn for her 10 year overhaul (currently likely to be on Saturday)
  • ‘Double-Hunslets’ – almost identical Quarry Hunslets Alice and George B double-heading, paired cab to cab with chimneys facing outwards in a tribute to the FfR’s double Fairlies. (One return trip each day).
  • A cab-less triple header on Saturday’s 5:20pm departure featuring Alice, George B and Winifred.
  • Two double-headed trains crossing at Llangower on Monday.
  • Frequent service of passenger trains (operating to our pink timetable, first train 10:10am, and every 50 minutes until 4:00pm)
  • Additional demonstration freight trains to Llangower (departing Llanuwchllyn at 11:30am and 2:50pm Saturday & Sunday, 11:30am and 1:10pm on Monday)
  • Three trains passing at Llangower – two passenger and a freight!
  • Free London Routemaster double-decker bus connecting Bala station with the town and park & ride car parks.
  • Various Society Stands

Halloween Trains - October 27th & 31st

Be Prepared to be Scared!!!

We are running these very popular trains again this Halloween.

Dare you ride the ghostly train to the witches coven?

Will your train make it through to the end of the line or will one of the ghosts or spectres force it to turn back?

There's only one way to find out, join us for an evening of storytelling and ghoulish fun.

This event is only mildly scary and is suitable for the whole family.

Our Halloween Trains will depart from Llanuwchllyn at 5.15 and 6.30, please note that it is not possible to board these trains at any other station.

Online booking and further details will be available nearer to the event.

Santa's Annual Visit - December 8th & 9th

The Bala Lake Railway is pleased to announce that Santa Claus has accepted our invitation to visit Llanuwchllyn on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th December 2018.

Trains will be hauled by two of our steam locomotives, suitably decorated. All trains will depart from Llanuwchllyn Station on a journey down the line to Santa’s grotto where the children will meet Santa and receive a gift.

Online booking and further details will be available nearer to the event.
