Steam Gala - August 25th to 28th

 This August Bank Holiday weekend sees the return of our annual steam extravaganza, and the welcoming of our newest locomotive 'George B' to the operational fleet! With an intensive timetable, five operational Quarry Hunslets and a lots of activity, this is sure to be a great weekend!

Attractions include:

  • George B's first gala appearance in preservation
  • Maid Marian running in original cab-less condition
  • An intensive timetable utilising our entire fleet of operational steam locomotives
  • Demonstration Dinorwic, Penrhyn and Hopper wagon freight trains
  • 'Double-Headed' Hunslets
  • A one-off 'Triple-Headed' Red Cab-less Hunslet Special (Saturday Night only)

Attractions at Llanuwchllyn:

  • "Driver for a Fiver" - Why not try driving Winifred at Llanuwchllyn for £5 on Sunday
  • Access to the locomotive shed to see Peckett 0-6-0 'Triassic' awaiting overhaul
  • Access to the Signal Box at Llanuwchllyn (Operations permitting)
  • Café serving hot and cold light refreshments (including ice creams and cake; of course!)
  • Picnic area with great views of the station, watching the locomotives pottering about the station
  • Miniature Railway offering rides along the platform
  • Model Railways
  • Locomotive Owning Group stands and stalls
  • Our fleet of heritage narrow gauge wagons will be on display around the station and yard between a number of demonstration freight train trips between Llanuwchllyn and Llangower
  • View locomotives being serviced at the water tower between duties
  • Lots of activity with locomotives shunting about the station
  • A special loco cavalcade 'Up the Bank' and into Llanuwchllyn station (Saturday Evening only)

Attractions at Bala:

  • Free vintage Bus Service between Bala Station and the town
  • Cab visits to locomotives whilst they rest between duties on Friday and Saturday (operations permitting)
  • Miniature Railway offering rides along the platform
  • Display showing our future extension plans into Bala Town
  • A Ticket Office will be open throughout the four days at Bala Station

Please note: there is only road-side parking available at Bala Station. Passengers wishing to join the train at Bala are encouraged to park in Bala town and use the connecting vintage bus service (free) or to park at Llanuwchllyn Station where there is plenty of free parking available.

Tickets:

Our normal fares apply for rides during the Gala. In addition the following 'Rover' tickets are available for those wanting to spend some more time riding the trains.

  • Day Rover: Adult £18.00, Concession £16.00, Child £6.00 on Friday & Monday
  • Day Rover: Adult £20.00, Concession £18.00, Child £6.00 on Saturday & Sunday

If you’re making a weekend of it or are visiting for more than 1 day, you can purchase 2-day Rovers at £30.00, 3-day Rovers at £40.00 and the full 4-day Weekend Rover at £48.00 to enjoy the whole show!

Tickets will be available for advanced purchase via our website and on the day from either the Booking Offices (at Llanuwchllyn & Bala) or the train Guard.

Halloween Trains - October 28th & 31st

Be Prepared to be Scared!!!

We will be running these very popular trains again in 2017.

Our Halloween Trains will depart from Llanuwchllyn at 5.00 and 6.00, please note that it is not possible to board these trains at any other station.

Santa's Annual Visit - December 9th & 10th

The Bala Lake Railway is pleased to announce that Santa Claus has accepted our invitation to visit Llanuwchllyn on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th December 2017.

Trains will be hauled by two of our steam locomotives, suitably decorated. All trains will depart from Llanuwchllyn Station on a journey down the line to Santa’s grotto where the children will meet Santa and receive a gift.
